About

I have always been fascinated by how we interact with each other. As a relatively shy child I would watch the other children playing without a care in the world, I on the other hand was incredibly anxious and preferred my own company. After years of work to understand myself with the help of other wonderful practitioners and colleagues I realised, it doesn't have to be this way, I have a choice. I felt I had uncovered the secret to a much happier life and had to share this seemingly unknown revelation! You can adapt, change and learn to leave negative emotions behind. Who knew? Now, I'm no higher being, I don’t have all the answers, and I have struggled just like you. I have hidden in cupboards to escape my screaming children, had days off work where I just could not function because I was so anxious. I've avoided social situations, interacting with others was just too painful because I was afraid of their preconceived judgments. But, after much denial, avoidance, buckets of tears and always a sense of humour, I found I had learnt how to protect myself with defence mechanisms I no longer need , well, I've kept the humour, as you can tell, but I felt free, more accepting of myself and I want this for you. I will be with you through tears, anger and all your defences until you are ready to forgive and find compassion for yourself and others.
I am an Integrative Psychotherapist. What does that even mean, right? Well, I believe there isn't just one therapeutic approach that can help clients in all situations. Instead, I consider your circumstances and you as an individual and use elements of different approaches to help you explore and cope with your problems.
Of course, I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) which means I abide by their core principles to ensure your safety and mine. This includes;
- Being trustworthy: honouring the trust you place in me
- Autonomy: respect for my client’s right to be self-governing
- Beneficence: a commitment to promoting my client’s well-being
- Non-maleficence: a commitment to avoiding harm to the client
- Justice: the fair and impartial treatment of all my clients and the provision of adequate services
- Self-respect: fostering my self-knowledge, integrity and care for self
I also attend regular supervision, this is where I consult an experienced colleague whilst maintaining confidentiality to ensure I am always focused on what is best for my clients, continually developing and ensuring my self-care so that I can bring you an ethical and safe service.
